I don't claim to be an authority but the best information on crappie fishing I have found is In-Fisherman's book called Crappie Wisdom. About 15 bucks and to me worth many times more. Very detailed. Hope this helps. wayner

I just recently started fishing for crappie. I went out last weekend to Whiskey Slough (in Tracy, CA). I caught one crappie using a minnow and then about 2 hours later caught another one using wax worms, but that was it. I heard they run in schools and if you catch one then they should bite back to back. What am I doing wrong.

I fished during the night (the one that bit on the minnow bit at night), early morning (that's when I caught the one on wax worms) and during the day and had no further luck.

The tide was coming up when I got there (Friday night). The water is slightly murky, with a lot of undergrowth. I know the crappie were in the undergrowth because I saw a couple of them moving around. The problem was I would get caught up if I threw my line directly in there and didn't get any further bites when I threw just outside or in between the undergrowth.
