SUBJECT: # 695: Crappie at night

Went out last night in Wahoo Creek. I found a big area that is 12-14 feet deep, and spotted schools of fish on the fish finder, so I anchored down near one and caught 2 1-lb-ers. After dark, I set up my light, and it brought in the baitfish, but I wasn't catching any crappie... I moved closer to shore and caught a nice fat crappie, and after a half hour drifted back across the creek. Nothing else hit my lines...
Um, the question I have is: What type area is good for crappie? Shallow flats? Deep channels? downed treetops? Are they in the spawning beds yet? My neighbor doesn't seem to think so.
I noticed you said you were fishing bridge pylons, is that a good spot? I had tried that during daytime before, and caught nothing. Also, what is good to troll for these crappie?
