SUBJECT: # 702: Need Summertime Crappie Fishing help!

Submitted by Ranger R (67.65.24.65) from TEXAS on 7/3/2005 4:46:00 PM

I had been catching crappie of Lake Travis, until last week. Last week, went to my same ole hole, and only caught one crappie in 4 hours of fishing....Also noticed the water level was down 12-15 feet, plus the water temp must have been in the mid to upper 80's....I fish in 30 feet of water normally, but the water depth was more like 15-17 feet. So, what water depth should I be fishing in, this time of year? Maybe 30 feet of water or more?

Tough question, I know. But need some advise..I fish primarely Lake Travis, but willing to try other local Austin area lakes, too.!

I posted some help on this website, too.. http://texasfishing.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi?board=openfresh&action=display&num=1120406699&start=0 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy Ranger: Tell me two things. Are there or were there any baitfish showing up around your fishing hole and how much brush is in the hole. Could be your hole needs to be sweetened up with a little green brush and maybe a few range cubes. That should bring the bait fish in. Another tip is you might try fishing in the creek channel around any brush or structure. The channel should have some moving water that will be a little cooler. Hope this helps.
