SUBJECT: # 73: Lake Lanier Crappie Fishing

Submitted by okeespec from GEORGIA on 11/29/1999 7:34:00 PM

I went Crappie fishing on last Wednesday night in six mile creek. I called Wee Willy's to make sure they would be opened so I could get some minnows. When I got there they had their gone fishin' sign up and all lights were out. DAMM I WAS PISSED! I drove thirty miles to get there. I did have jigs however and jig fished for three hours under the bridge. Not even a lousy bite. The only entertainment was the little blue gills chasing their own tails. Has anyone had any luck lately on Lanier crappie fishing? Six mile was so productive August through the first week in October. I still don't have a fish finder so I can't really hunt them down yet. Good luck to all the Crappie fisherman out there!

Sounds like your honey hole went dry too, at least for the time being. I haven't been to the lake (any lake) in two weeks and I need to so bad I can taste it (deep fried) . Still haven't made it to Lanier so I can't help you out any right now. Several years ago I bought a used fish finder from a buddy at work who got a new one for Christmas. I modified the back of my john boat and made a rig to hold the transducer. Works fine. Ask around, maybe you'll get lucky. It would certainly increase your success rate. Thanks for the previous advice you gave me. I'll return the favor as soon as I have something good to pass on. Good Fishin'.

Hey how did you rig your transducer? I have a coleman crawdad and have been debating on how to rig it. I thought about mounting it to my trolling motor. I but a flat board in my boat and am going to build a small console. I figured I could mount the fish finder on top and put the battery underneath. Also, if you use a light while Crappie fishing at night, I bought one that is amazing. I bought it at BassPro shops. If you are interested I will find out what it is called becuase it blows away the car floating headlight thing. It also only draws 1.5 amps. It lights up the whole area above and below the water. Good fishing to all and to all a Crappie night!
