Rated:

3 fish for 36.5 lbs. 11.5, 12 and 13. Curtis Norrod has caught over 50 double digits out of this lake. This 13 is not his biggest, he had a 13.63 (I think) in 2006. He turned the 13 loose after photos. His brother shot this video. There is a post on the Texas Fishing Forum saying that he found 2 more, but couldn't get them to bite. This was last Thursday. KEWL video. Hope it doesn't drive too many people to west Texas, but it did in 2004-2006. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thanks Thad from Ralph Manns  4/11/2012 11:05:05 PM
And I was feeling good because I caught a 6 today. Sigh!

I Fished Alan Henry 7-8 years ago with a brother in law. We didn't see anything like that. UNtil recently, the Henry reports weren't exciting. Perhaps the low water last year gave the bass plenty to eat. I looked closely at the lake. He appears to be fishing rocky humps that were once under water? Has west Texas finally got over the extended dought?

Ralph, I will take a 6 ANY DAY of the week from Thad Rains  4/12/2012 12:41:16 AM
This just goes to prove your theory of how important it is to fish where big fish live, for double digit bass. No, the lake is down almost 10', they pumped 2 million gallons, plus filled the pipeline early and that didn't bring the lake down too much. We are still in drought conditions, but we are getting a little rain now. At our ranch, we have had almost 2.5" so far this year, so about average, but still way behind what we didn't get last year. The lake hasn't caught much water, because the rains have been scattered and spotty. With the lake down 10', though, it does kind of concenntrate the fish a little more, still GREAT water clarity. I still know where 28 springs and 10 tank dams are on the lake. LOL.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thanks for that video Thad from DaveT  4/12/2012 6:52:57 PM
that was GREAT. Is that lake in Texas? Sure want makes a guy want to live close to that lake.

Alan Henry is a relatively new reservoir Southeast of Lubbock, TX. It had a brief flurry of big bass production after it first opened, but then became less productive. This video suggests the reservoir may be about to peak again and give us a few more Lone Star 13# Lunkers.

Thanks for the info Ralph, if and when I hit the big Lotto from DaveT  4/15/2012 11:19:00 AM
I'am moving to Texas. Any state that has Bass like that, and is the home of George Strait sounds like a GREAT place to be.

DaveT, sorry I didn't reply back to you from Thad Rains  4/17/2012 11:36:05 PM
Ralph, thanks for picking up my slack. Alan Henry is a very small 2220 acre lake juset east of Justiceburg Texas (between Post and Snyder). It is on a tributary of the Brazos River so it is deeper than normal and clearer than normal. To toot my own horn, I have video of the lake at 20', 30', 42' and 53' and I should make another now, since it is down 10 ft, that would make it about 64' deep. It is a long lake and not very wide, but you can get out of the wind in lots of places on the lake, good thing, because the wind will blow in west Texas. In 2004-2006, it poroduced as many SAL (big fish, females 13+ lbs) as the famed Lake Fork did. Hopefully, we can get the quality of the lake back to what it was then.

Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
