SUBJECT: # 660: toledo bend crappie fishing

I have a camp near Many, LA at the Shadows Landing and would like to leard to fish for crappie in that area. Any suggestions on guides, fishing techniques for finding and catching slabs or hot spots? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's usually best to place several brushpiles in or near creeks in 12-20' of water and bait them to attract baitfish, these work well when the crappie are not spawning.Without brushpiles try trolling with jigs, tie 3 jigs of various colors(blk/chart, blue/white and red/white are good to start with)in-line on 14-18' of line on a good jigging pole, using 2 poles from the front of your boat works best. Shiners work trolling but they seem to die quicker doing this.
I use a drop-shot rig w/jigs too, usually near boat houses and structure.
Jigs and shiners below a float work well when they come into the coves in Feb/Mar, you can catch limits of 1-2lb.er's fairly easily then !
