SUBJECT: # 19: Walleyes in Virginia?

I know there are walleyes in small lakes nearby (Fredericksburg), but how do you catch them? Will northern walleye tactics work here?

I'm down in Norfolk, and we have a couple of stocked lakes with the pearl eyes. I've never fished up north, but I perfer using a blade bait in the 1/4 to 1/2 oz size (ie..Silver Buddy or Sonar). Bounce this along the bottom and concentrate on the deep ledges. Grass will hold these fish as well. Another tactic that works well for me is to cast a paddle tail 3" grub (mister twister). I've done well trolling Hot-n-Tots & Shad raps in the flats. One year I limited at Lake Whitehurst on trolling a bettlespin with a bottom bouncer. I've seen a guy slow trolling an Erie dearie tipped with night crawers and he did quite well. I just pefer artificial baits I hope this helps, and I would venture to say that any tactic that has worked up north (other than ice pole jigging) would work.
